1078 private homes sold in May 2010

According to latest figures from the URA, a total of 1,078 new private homes were sold in May. Compared to April's record sales of 2,207 units, this is almost a 50% drop in sales. What happened? Was the huge land release by the Govt a factor? Or was it the wobbly global markets playing around with buyers' heads? We think it's just buyer fatigue. Besides, plenty of folk are saying prices have hit the peak. And as you know, what goes up must come down. Anyway, here are the most popular choices for May: •The Minton at Lorong Ah Soo, with 204 units sold (median price- $849 per sq ft) •The Cascadia at Bukit Timah Road, with 72 units sold (median price- $1,464 per sq ft) •Waterbank at Dakota, with 52 units sold (median price- $1,092 per sq ft) •Tree House at Chestnut Avenue, with 52 sold (median price -$831 per sq ft) Apart from these popular condos, some of the more expensive units were also sold as well: •Orchard View, sold at $3,641 per sq ft •The Hamilton Scot

Sentosa Cove home goes for $36 million

Despite much caution in the property market, a top-end bungalow at Sentosa Cove sold for a record-breaking $36 million, at $2,403 per sq ft. The home is understood to have a land area of 14,983 sq ft and a built-up area of about 17,000 sq ft. The 99-year leasehold double-storey bungalow faces the waterway and has its own yacht berth and has been bought by a Chinese national, who is also a Singaporean permanent resident. Compared to a nearby property sold in March at $19.38 million at $2,390 per sq ft with a smaller built up area of 8,105 sq ft, this bungalow certainly appears to be highly valued by its buyer.
